The End of Alice by A.M. Homes was, well interesting to say the least.. I feel a little weird that I heard about this book from one of my professors in University. He saw me reading a book at the bus stop after class one day and he recommended this book.
Anyway, the book is written from the point of view of a pedophile in prison. The whole story kind of jumps all over the place, it’s a little tricky to tell when you’re in a flashback, when you’re in a woman’s letters, or when you’re in prison with him. Basically, he tells the story of his correspondence with a nineteen year old woman who is sleeping with a young boy as well his time in prison and his sexual relationship with a fellow inmate. Meanwhile flashing back to time with his mother, and time with this person named Alice (you have no idea who she is until the end.)
It’s a tricky book to read, some of the details are very very graphic. I found that it didn’t really make sense until I read the last twenty pages or so. It’s an alright book to read, if you can stomach very sexual and disturbing content.
